Following reports yesterday that the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) shut down three pharmaceuticals including Emzor, the company has reacted to the development, stating that only one arm of their production line was sealed off by the regulatory agency.
According to the statement which was released on the company’s official Facebook Page, the temporary closure only affected their liquid line where the controversial codeine containing syrup- Emzolyn is manufactured. As such, the company’s other product lines were not affected.
NAFDAC have only temporarily sealed one of Emzor’s production sites, the liquid line. The rest of Emzor is still operating as normal. On Wednesday the 2nd of May NAFDAC inspected one of our production sites where Emzolyn with Codeine was made. There were given full access and our complete cooperation, with no issues raised at the time.
Emzor continues to make good quality affordable medicines for the Nigerian public and the products are still available to buy. We believe in Emzor Wellocracy, unlimited wellness available to all and affordable by all.
The statement also alleged that the company does not know what exactly their violation is, as NAFDAC never gave an explanation/reasons prior to shutting down their production line.
On Monday the 7th of May, NAFDAC sealed the inspected site without giving us a reason nor an explanation of what the violation of the Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) Code was and it will be wrong for us to speculate as to the reason why.
As we reported, NAFDAC shut down Emzor and two other companies, following an inconclusive investigation. The agency’s Director-General, Mojisola Adeyeye, released a statement after the operations noting that the move became imperative after the uncovering of evidence by the investigation team which she constituted.
NAFDAC said the shut down is to create room “for a full and comprehensive investigation” which is to take place on a date yet to be made public.
