Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL), operator of the Muritala Muhammed Airport 2, has refuted claims that there are cracks on some pillars at the parking lot of the MMA 2 terminal.
This was disclosed by BASL in a statement issued on Monday.
According to the company, there are no safety issues at its facility and that there are no cracked pillars at the parking lot of the terminal.
What BASL is saying about facility
Mikail Mumuni, Group Corporate Affairs Manager, BASL, stated, “There are no cracked pillars at the parking lot.
“The person who posted the picture is obviously not well informed. This is an expansion joint and not a crack.”
“The expansion joint is a space provided in every substantial structure that enables the building or structure to breathe.”
He explained that there are similar expansion joints found on bridges across the country.
“MMA2 carries out integrity tests regularly on its structure,” he added
In case you missed it
A Twitter user had taken to his handle to draw the attention of the authorities to a crack he spotted on one of the pillars at the Murtala Mohammed Airport, Lagos state.
Posting a photo showing the crack, he wrote;
”This is MM2’s parking lot. Given the rate of building collapses in Lagos, can someone alert the right people so we don’t have another disaster on our hands?
So many bad engineers commenting on this tweet. I have two engineering degrees. (I switched careers 12 years ago).
What we’re looking at is two cracked pillar on an expansion joint. There’s a difference. The pillar aren’t meant to split like that.
But hey, we love our burials.”
