The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has tasked Nigerians to be wary of internet fraudsters who claim that Customs officers help them smuggle vehicles through the borders into the country.

This was disclosed by the spokesperson of the Service, Joseph Attah, in a documentary shared via its Instagram page on Thursday.

He warned Nigerians that none of its officials aided the smuggling of vehicles via the borders and such claims were made by some internet fraudsters to mislead Nigerians.

Attah said, “Some of the fraudsters claimed that one Senior Officer Joseph Attah had helped him clear his vehicle at the border.

In some cases, some claimed senior officers helped them facilitate auctions done for some seized vehicles across borders. It has got to a situation where they posted videos of supposedly auction winners.”

The Nigerian Senate approved the sum of N1.678 trillion as revenue target for the Nigerian Customs Service for 2021, while also announcing an expenditure of N257 billion for the Service.

The NCS also stated in May that it generated N799 billion in revenues between January and May 2021, representing a N226.1 billion increase when compared with the amount generated for the same period in 2020.
