The Federal Government has alerted the general public to heightened security activities ahead of preparations to mark Nigeria’s 61st independence anniversary in a couple of days.
The warning is coming as the country is faced with several security challenges from terrorists, bandits, kidnappers and even some separatist or self-determination groups.
This disclosure is contained in a statement released by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, on Friday, September 24, 2021, in which he issued the security alert for the October 1 Independence Day celebration.

Mohammed, however, urged residents of the Federal Capital Territory and its environs not to panic and to go about their legitimate activities.
He said, ”Residents are enjoined to report suspicious persons and movements to the security agencies through the following numbers: 09-6305396, 08031230631, 08032003557 and 122.

Bottom line
Nigeria has been in the grip of various destructive forces which has led to the current state of high insecurity across the country. Most of these security threats are from terrorist groups such as ISWAP and Boko Haram, bandits, and criminals who kidnap innocent citizens for heavy ransom.
