Lagos State governor appoints Teju Abisoye as LSETF’s acting executive secretary

The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode has appointed Mrs. Teju Abisoye as the Acting Executive Secretary (ES) of the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF) with effect from April 1st, 2019 pending confirmation by the Lagos State House of Assembly. Prior to this appointment, Mrs. Abisoye was Director of Programmes and Coordination at the LSETF. In this role, she was responsible for the delivery of targeted programmes designed to enable access to finance and financial inclusion for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs); as well as enable skills development and other structured interventions to boost job and wealth creation in Lagos State.

Commenting on the appointment, the Chairman of the LSETF, Mrs. Ifueko M. Omoigui Okauru said; “We are pleased to have Teju assume the role of the Executive Secretary of the Fund. Teju brings to this role her superior understanding of the vision, core values and strategies of the LSETF as she has been at the forefront of coordinating the delivery of the Fund’s programmes. She has demonstrated exemplary leadership, deep knowledge of the interventions needed to tackle unemployment and is very passionate about gender parity.”

Also commenting, Mrs. Teju Abisoye expressed her commitment to achieving the Fund’s mandate of job creation and tackling unemployment in the state. “I am grateful to Governor Akinwunmi Ambode for the confidence reposed in me to serve in this role and to direct the affairs of the Trust Fund. I am very grateful to my predecessor and the pioneer Executive Secretary of the Fund, Mr. Akin Oyebode for his exemplary leadership and laying the foundation for me to build on. I look forward to leading the team and strengthening the impact of our work in the State.”

Mrs. Abisoye is a lawyer with extensive experience in development finance, project planning, execution, monitoring and evaluation of humanitarian projects, government interventions and investment opportunities. Prior to joining LSETF, she served as Director (Post Award Support) of YouWIN! where she was responsible for managing Consultants nationwide to provide training, monitoring & evaluation for a minimum of 1,200 Awardees annually. She has also managed the affairs of a Non-Government Organization based in Lagos.

LSETF was set up by the Lagos State Government in March 2016 to tackle unemployment and promote job creation in the State. To achieve its mandate, the Fund has interventions in three core areas: entrepreneurship, skills development and innovation. These activities are targeted toevery resident irrespective of gender, religion or tribe with a commitment to ensure at least 50% of the beneficiaries are women.

About the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF)

LSETF was set up by the Lagos State Government in March 2016 to tackle unemployment in and promote job creation in the State. To achieve its mandate, the Fund has interventions in three core areas: entrepreneurship, skills development and innovation. These activities are targeted to every indigene irrespective of gender, religion or tribe with a commitment to ensure at least 50% of the beneficiaries are women. Our programmes include:

  1. Loan Programme: The loan programmes provides access to finance for Small and
    Medium Scale Enterprises (SME), Micro- Enterprises (ME) and ME Startups (MES)
    beneficiaries with a maximum value of N5mn, N500,000 and N250,000 respectively.
  2. Employability Programme: The Lagos State Employability Support Project in partnership with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) aims to increase the pool of skilled manpower to alleviate the acute shortages of employable labour. The project will improve the quality of labour in these sectors: Manufacturing, Health Care,
    Construction, Entertainment, and Hospitality. It is expected that through the project
    about 10,000 skilled manpower will be produced in 18 months to cater for demand in
    key sectors. It also includes promotional and access to job opportunities for individuals.
    The project targets unemployed and under-employed youths with or without skills and
    aged 18 to 35 years.
  3. Lagos Innovates Programme: Lagos Innovates is a dedicated platform that refers to
    a set of programs that provide support for the exciting and fast-growing startup
    ecosystem in Lagos State. Lagos Innovates is designed to assist founders and startups
    by facilitating access to high quality workspaces/infrastructure, learning, early stage
    investment capital and investor and peer networks. Programs are open to all
    innovation-driven enterprises that are less than three years old and based in Lagos
    State.
