Meet Obong Idiong, the new CEO of Africa Prudential Plc

Africa Prudential Plc has announced the appointment of Obong Idiong as the new Managing Director/CEO of the company. The new appointment followed the retirement of Managing Director/CEO, Peter Ashade. The appointment takes effect from July 1 subject to approval by the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The former MD/CEO, Ashade served the company for twelve years since assuming leadership of the company since in 2006. Until his new appointment, Obong was the company secretary/legal adviser of Afriland Properties Limited.

Recall that Nairametrics reported that Ashade replaced Toyin Sanni who resigned her appointment as the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of United Capital Plc.

Ashade joined the services of UBA registrars (the forerunner of African Prudential) in June 2006. He holds a B.Sc. in Banking and Finance, an MSc in finance from the University of Lagos (UNILAG), and a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife.

He is also a member of several professional bodies including the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) and Institute of Capital Market Registrars (ICMR).

Reacting to his new appointment, Idiong said:

“I am honoured to accept this new appointment as the Managing Director/CEO at Africa Prudential Plc. This company has been at the forefront of product innovation within and outside the investors’ space in Africa and I am committed to working to take Africa Prudential to greater heights”

Profile of the new Managing Director/CEO

Before Idiong’s appointment, he has being serving as Afriland Properties Limited’s Legal Adviser/Company Secretary, after previously serving in the same capacity at Heirs Holdings Limited. He has 16 years working experience, ranging from being an Advocate and Solicitor at Alha Juris Chambers (2002 to 2004), Legal Officer and Credit Administrator at Lagoon Home Savings & Loans Limited, Legal Officer at Standard Trust Bank (now United Bank for Africa Plc, 2005 – 2006), and also Special Assistant to the CEO at UBA Plc (2006 – 2010).

He attended the University of Calabar where he bagged a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree, a BL from the Nigerian Law School. He also attended the University of Liverpool and got a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree in International Finance & Business Law; He holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from the Lagos State University (LASU).
