The Nigerian equities market began the week on a positive note as the NSEASI gained 1.73% to drive market capitalization to NGN10.50trn . The upbeat mood witnessed in the stock market during the days’ trading comes on the heels of the successful and relatively peaceful conduct of the presidential elections over the weekend.
Contrary to the general market mood, volume and value of transactions declined by 62.88% and 58.75% respectively, just as 43 stocks appreciated in price as against 12 decliners .
FIDSON emerged the highest gainer for the day, having increased its share value by 9.12%. Other top gainers included NAHCO, ETERNA and UNILEVER which all recorded respective gains of 7.94%, 7.75% and 7.24%. On the flip side, VONO led the laggards table shedding 8.60%.FO, CADBURY and PHARMDEKO also closed the day’s trading 5.01%, 5.00% and 4.91% down accordingly.
However, we expect the outcome of the presidential election to determine the direction of trading in the coming weeks.
