SECOND NIGER BRIDGE

The administration of former President Late Muhammadu Buhari, who led Nigeria from 2015 to 2023, undertook a number of road and rail infrastructure projects aimed at improving national connectivity.
The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Works, has officially commenced the construction of a 17.55-kilometre access road to the Second Niger Bridge in Asaba.  
The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has revealed that the Federal Government will prioritize the completion of four key road projects per geopolitical zone in 2025, focusing on finishing ongoing projects rather than launching new ones.  
Minister of Works, David Umahi, announced that President Bola Tinubu has given the approval for funding the completion of the Second Niger two bypass projects, Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano, and the Lagos-Ibadan highway.
There are unconfirmed reports that some road fittings installed on the newly commissioned Second Niger Bridge have been stolen by vandals.
The bridge is being commissioned by President Muhammadu Buhari on May 23, 2023, and will now be officially known as the Muhammadu Buhari Bridge.
Other projects are the Loko-Oweto Bridge across River Benue to link Benue to Nasarawa State, the Ikom Bridge in Cross River State and the completed section of the over 200 kilometres of Kano-Kaduna Dual Carriage Expressway.
The second phase of the project is yet to commence, but the government has deemed it fit that upon completion of the first phase it will be open to traffic
