The demolition of Landmark Beach Resort in Oniru, Victoria Island, due to its encroachment on the right-of-way of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, commenced today, Monday, April 29, 2024, following the official start of the demolition of properties along the coastal highway corridor on Saturday.
The management of Landmark Beach Resort has stated that the original right of way designated for the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, which passes through the Water Corporation Road median, remains unused, undeveloped, and still available for the highway construction.
Sand filling is currently ongoing at some portions of Landmark Beach Resort, one of the businesses in Oniru issued a demolition notice due to encroachment on the right of way for the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project.
Paul Onwuanibe, CEO of Landmark Africa Group, has announced that he is hopeful that ongoing discussions with the government will preserve Landmark Beach Resort despite the planned demolition for the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway
Minister Dave Umahi stated that rerouting the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway to include the coastal path was crucial to protect the area's developed infrastructure.
Funso Doherty, a former ADC gubernatorial candidate for Lagos State, has called on the Lagos State Government to carefully consider businesses that have heavily invested in employing locals and contributing taxes while reclaiming land for the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project. 
Landmark Beach Resort's management has initiated negotiations with federal and state governments and interest groups to adjust the initial 1.5 km segment of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, proposing to redirect it along the undeveloped median of Water Corporation Road to avoid disrupting the resort's business. 
The government of Lagos State has issued a demolition warning to the proprietor of $200 Landmark Beach Resort, a leading tourism spot, because it obstructs the planned route of a 700-kilometer coastal road intended to connect the state with Calabar.
