Yemi Kale

Nigeria has been getting some good PR lately particularly on the economic front as most foreign media and foreign investors strive to position the most populous contry in Africa as an investment haven. We have seen the Minister of Finance, Okonjo, Minister of Agriculture, Adesina and Minister for Trade, Aganga appear several times on froegin media as the heroes of Nigeria’s Economic reform. Sanusi has also been brandsished as a hero. However, they have now included the Chief of the National Bureau of Statistic Yemi Kale as a successful reformer has he strives to put Nigeria in a positive note on the statistical map. See excerpts of one articel I scooped;

Nigeria statistics chief has almost figured out the economy

Officials who spent their days under a mango tree falsifying forms. Villagers who were reachable only by canoe or whose first inclination was to attack the census takers. Such suspicion of government that businesses refused to provide data. More than 200 languages, 160 million people, 36 states and 774 local government areas.These were among the challenges that greeted Yemi Kale when he was appointed Nigeria’s statistician-general two years ago – and some of the reasons why his quest to provide more accurate gross domestic product figures for Africa’s second-largest economy are taking so long.
