Ikeja Electric offers 24-hour metering to customers
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Linkedin

Ikeja Electric Plc, in its efforts to accelerate installation of meters under the MAP scheme, is offering willing customers the one-day metering initiative where they can complete their KYC and get metered in 24 hrs.

The programme which is being done in collaboration with MOJEC International Ltd. commenced on Tuesday at the Ikeja Electric’s Shomolu Business Unit for customers in Ilupeju, Oworo and Igbobi areas of Lagos State.

Felix Ofulue, the Company’s Head of Corporate Communications said it was to ensure that customers who were willing to make payments for their prepaid meters were metered as quickly as possible.

He explained that the Meter Asset Provider (MAP (scheme) provides a platform for customers who want to make payment to ensure that their premises are metered as soon as possible.

According to him, the Federal Government of Nigeria had initiated the National Mass Metering Programme (NMMP) to install free prepaid meters to customers in order to bridge the metering gap in the country. However, Ikeja Electric has completed phase zero of the programme and while awaiting the commencement of next phase of this Mobile MAP Programme will serve as alternative for customers who are willing to make payment for meters under the MAP scheme.

“So, we advise customers to take advantage of the initiative by Ikeja Electric and MOJEC to get metered because we are ready to ensure that the process is done and completed within 24 hours.”

He also warned customers to shun energy theft and meter bypass, stressing that anybody caught in engaging in such nefarious activities would be dealt with according to the regulations governing the electricity sector.

On her part, Ms Chantelle Abdul, Group Managing Director, MOJEC International Holdings, said the Mobile MAP scheme was aimed at bringing the metering process closer to people’s doorsteps.

Abdul said: “We want to ensure that people get metered in 24 hours after completing the process and making payments for their categories of meters.

“They don’t need to wait for 10 days as stipulated by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission.

“The MAP scheme is for customers who can afford to pay for meters and don’t want to wait for the NMMP which is the free metering programme.

“We will be going to several places. In fact, Shomolu is our first stop but not the last stop. We are going to set up in other business units under Ikeja Electric network within the next few weeks.”

She noted that the importance of metering in the electricity supply industry could not be overemphasised.

Abdul said: “MOJEC has set itself to provide meters to the end users because metering is critical to both the consumers and the electricity providers.

“I believe that metering create a trust between the consumer and the electricity Distribution Company and helps to shore up revenue collection efficiency.

She said to kickstart the programme, the company had set aside about 10,000 prepaid meters for customers under the Shomolu Business Unit while over 100,000 meters would be installed across the Ikeja Electric network in coming weeks.

“You can be rest assured that there is a surplus and availability of meters and customers should not allowed themselves to be exploited to make additional payments to get metered,” Abdul said.

It will be recalled that NERC had approved N63,061.32 as the cost of a Single Phase Meter while a Three Phase Meter cost N117,910.69, including Value Added Tax.

Why is this scheme not having a larger coverage but rest but restricted to just those three areas? We urgently need such arrangement in Ketu and Alapere environs.

You guys are just not ready to give out meters. It takes nothing to meter Nigeria as a whole, but we are on the news foolishly advertising something so simple to do. Phone makers make over 50 million phones yearly, and now we talking simple meter for over 10 years.

According to the NERC guidelines customers after paying for the meters are expected to get refund via energy credit to be amortized over 3 years.
It would be gratifying if the Ikeja electric and MOJEC Int. representatives sensitize customers of this initiative as well.
It would not do them any good if they continue to keep quiet on this important aspect of the deal.
We customers would like to when and how to activate the process of getting this refund.

Ikd, your reason for collecting money before metering us is what I don’t understand. the so called meter is of no benefit to me compared to your organisation. It is your property. Why should we be paying for it. It help you to collect your money accurately and relieve
You of constant fighting with customers as a result of estimated billing. Your organisation is just reaping us of by selling this meter to us. My analogue meter has been lying fallow for the pass 8yrs. I paid 30k to get this meter in 2008 and now it is useless. We live in a country that policies changes at random. Please, install this meters for us free or at a very minimal fee of #5000-#10000 on logistic grand.

All this publications is a lie,. Many consumers under Aboru Undertaking are willing to pay for prepaid meter but were denied the opportunity to pay and obtain prepaid meter, instead they prefer to bring unused estimated bills.

You guys are jokers! You are offering meter within 24hrs to customers willing to pay for meter. So if a customer don’t want to pay for meter, you will still sell him/her electricity with no measurement?
