Mr Onyeama would be a poor businessman if he gets carried away with all of these nationalistic sentiments on something that is purely a business issue.
He triggered the price war by dropping the price and for which we are eternally grateful. His competitors with better resources have responded by taking the fight to him and are very well confident of sustaining this battle.
Mr Onyeama at this time must honker down and start looking at strategies for fighting this with sense because with time and in consideration of the many economic exigencies Nigerians face, a N300k to N500k price differential would not attract the average Nigerian to Air Peace no matter the patriotic favour.
I think it’s time, he should leave the sole trader mentality and get listed.
This means that he would have access to cheaper long-term funds, his valuation would be more transparent opening him up to better terms from international lenders and his corporate governance would kick in with its attendant impact on the bottom line.
He could also even have a dual listing with the same benefits. A London listing would open him up to other such benefits as a full taxpayer in that country
He should also be engaging the Federal Government on tax waivers, rebates, grants and other such ‘palliatives’
I think Mr Onyeama has worked too hard to let himself be carried away by the emotional dribbles of the fickle majority who litter the media space and who are faced with a tricky choice of an Air Peace flight to London at a 40% premium as against a better known international flight, would cover their faces and board the international flight while chatting up a storm in front of a BA air hostess as to why Air Peace is our National pride.
If Mr Onyeama doesn’t have serious-minded Financial Advisers already, he should get one now or else in the next 6 months, if this price war continues we may be having a candle night procession for his beautiful airline.
Duke of Shomolu
Send him this article, perhaps?
What a beautiful points to behold. Remembering the earlier 9ja owners with same mentality that went under after the uproar, Air peace needs all lessons to be up and doing so that we can be proud of a successful venture well done by own person.
The Duke made realistic points. He should also have suggested that the FGN should adopt AirPeace as a national carrier and accord him the full benefits of BATA with all the countries it is flying. That way it can expect all the courtesies his competitors enjoy in Nigeria in their countries, including reciprocating ill treatments it receives in those countries. Duke said it all already.
Chief Onyema was recently quoted in an interview saying Air Peace is not interested in becoming a national carrier.
You guys are the problem. Because he’s not from your tribe. You all need a lesson on how government works
Duke of shomolu is a bxxtaxxd working for Nigeria’s detractors. Onyeama will remain a WINNER, no matter how the pendulum spins.
Go fuck yourself Duke axxhole!
It’s such a pity but not surprising the antics of those who never wish for anything good to come out of this country and her citizens. We know a lot of them by their behavioural patterns and I didn’t expect Mr. Onyema to think little of the impact of this set of people, moreover, he already has encounter with them from the onset and I wish him and need him to up his game and play the corporate game. And play it very well.
As a trained lawyer, I am sure he knows what to do and how to t and that is why he has come this far. He didn’t come this far to come and be kicking wounds, he knows the DED. Good luck to you sir !
The point is not air peace mr duke. the point is the foreign air line can give you free air ticket. Which you will take as a poor Nigerian. When peace is out the will jack their prices to 20000000 naira to London route. The decision is yours.
You got it.
I believe Air Peace knew there would be a price war but was not expecting a strangulating price war.
It is left for the Nigerian government to help Air Peace to be able to stand its ground through some incentives.
If they destroy Air Peace, they would want to recover all the money they used to fight it, and Nigerians will pay through their nose to fly to London.
Outside the business strategy of Air Peace, patriotism must influence what we do at this point.
A loss or win, Nigeria is significantly involved.

He is prepared trust him
Duke didn’t wake up one morning to devote time and energy to write this piece. I am sure he is getting paid. He represents the Capitalist who don’t care about the welfare of people. They always point to the forces of demand and supply. Air Peace should be encouraged and supported by all and sundry not just government. The impact of Air peace in the air is massive. It will remain so whether you like it or not.
My heart sank when I saw a misleading caption of this article as ‘ …..just before the crash’. Please, the journalist responsible for that caption should desist from such creepy antics.
Where is the sense of national loyalty?
Though it’s not my way of making comment, but the writer of this article is an idiot of a journalist with the caption. His heart is not right and the calamity he wished for shall befall him and his household.
Now for point raised, the right thinking people in govt should advice Mr, President and Aviation Minister to defend Air Peace every way possible. In addition to that, let well meaning Nigerians be resolute to patronize Air Peace even if it cost us to pay more than what foreign vultures offers. By that they will learn how not to take us for granted any more.
God bless Nigeria.
Thank you sir
What I admire most about the air peace boss is the fact that he has strong business mindset and he doesn’t back down on any missions he decided to embark on so I’m confident that he must seen this coming…no worries.
It’s left for the Nigerian government to provide succour to Airpeace. This writer is a bigot. He has not achieved 1 100th of what airpeace has achieved. He should channel his energies on talking to his brothers in the corridors of government to ensure that airpeace succeeds
Air peace will survive the price war. Before coming out with the slash, he slept over it. Chf Efficiency Officer, Air peace, chf Onyema is an astute businessman who knows his onions. Believe you me, other airlines are jittery over the deft move made connecting London from major cities. I wish him huge success.
When Air Peace started about 10 years ago, I didn’t know it could last because of rumors that it got the money through the FG Amnesty programs. Apparently, it got tons of loans from Fidelity and ran a very tight team.
The founder was super frugal and was extremely involved in the business.
I really don’t like him because he could be as rude as anything, but I have respect for how he’s run his business, which is what’s important.
Now, in fighting the battle with BA and Virgin, he has a playbook to run: Fight like Virgin fought BA about 40 years ago. People see Virgin as an institution now, but at the start, they were in a worse position than Air Peace.
Wishing Oscar success in this game. If he wins, the spoils wouldn’t be for him but millions of smaller business owners who would get the confidence to go against the status quo.
