Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, who was visiting President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa residence, paid a surprise visit to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at his residence calling for unity and his support ahead of the 2023 general elections.
This was confirmed by a source in the VP’s media team on Friday.
According to him, the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate during his unscheduled visit embrace the VP, asking him to support him in the battles ahead of the 2023 general elections.
What Tinubu Said to Osinbajo
According to several media reports monitored by Nairametrics Bola Tinubu “recalled the efforts of the vice president in securing court victories for the defunct ACN, especially with the court case in Osun State.”
He also said he was “surprised that people assume the presidential contest will create a wedge between him and the vice president.”
And that he and the Vice President have come a long way and they are like blood brothers now.
“He said what happened was just democracy in action and there was nothing wrong with it.”
The report also suggested Tinubu was “jovial throughout the visit and shared the story of Mr. Osinbajo’s contributions not just to him as a person but to his political sojourn” the article mentioned.
What Osinbajo said after Tinubu’s visit
Shortly after Tinubu’s visit, the VP issued a statement calling for a new Nigeria.
Osinbajo said, “This movement is a movement within a party also, we are not doing something that has not been heard of before. What is new is that we have a firm belief that a new Nigeria is possible and it is possible through us who are here.
“We went to the convention, and the results showed us clearly that we lost, but it is only a battle, it is not the war. There are battles ahead, but we will win the war for a new Nigeria. I have no doubt in my mind that we will win that war for a new Nigeria.
“That is why our movement for a new Nigeria must remain strong and firm. And we will do everything to keep our movement strong and solid.”
According to the Vice President, despite the result of the APC Presidential Primary, “the dream of a new country remains alive and well… We will have at the back of our minds, that what you have started in the various movements, coming into one, is the seed that will birth a new nation. You and I know the time has come and we will devote everything to it.
“I am committed and will remain committed to that dream (of a new Nigeria), for as long as you are willing and recognize that we have not yet written the story of this country, we have not yet written the story of this country, we have not yet completed the story of this country. As a matter of fact, the story has just begun, this movement has just started.”
In case you missed it
It would be recalled that earlier this week, Bola Tinubu emerged the presidential flagbearer of the APC, flooring other aspirants including Vice President Yemi Osinabjo; former Rivers Governor, Rotimi Amaechi; and Senate President, Ahmed Lawan by a wide margin.
Vice President Osinbajo, on Thursday, had called on the members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to unite behind Bola Tinubu, the party’s presidential candidate and flagbearer to ensure his victory in the 2023 elections.
