The Lagos State Government has announced traffic diversion plans on Ikorodu-Sagamu road following the notification received from the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing.

The diversion plan for motorists which is due to the commencement of rehabilitation work on the Ikorodu-Sagamu road, is expected to be in place pending the completion of the project in March 2022.

This disclosure is contained in a statement signed by the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde, who said traffic inbound Itoikin from Sabo will be diverted due to the road works between Sabo and Oriwu Club, stressing that the Sagamu bound traffic is currently diverted to Itoikin-Ikorodu Road.

Oladeinde further explained that motorists inbound Sagamu will again be diverted to Itoikin-Ikorodu Road to link Akasalori Road to access Ikorodu-Sagamu Road by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) office.

He maintained that the project will ease interstate travel for motorists and reduce travel time, Oladeinde assured that the personnel of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be on ground to effectively manage traffic flow and minimise inconveniences to motorists plying the axis.

What you should know

  • Recall that in May 2018, the Federal Government commenced the rehabilitation of the Ikorodu-Sagamu Road.
  • The 30.4-kilometre road linking Lagos State to Sagamu town in Ogun State is a major access road for trucks and tankers evacuating petroleum products from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation’s depot in Mosimi.
  • The project which was awarded to Arab Contractors was expected to be completed in 36 months at the cost of N20 billion.
  • Motorists and residents plying Ikorodu-Sagamu road have lamented the deplorable state of the road.
  • Although the rehabilitation of the road had been awarded to a construction firm, Arab Contractors, residents and motorists on that axis have not gotten any respite due to slow pace of work on the road.
