The Kaduna State Government has announced the immediate restoration of telecommunication services in some parts of the states where they were earlier suspended.

This is coming barely 2 months after telecommunication companies shut down their services in some parts of Kaduna State at the instance of the state government and security agencies as part of measures to check the activities of bandits, kidnappers and other criminal elements.

This was made known by the Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Mr Samuel Aruwan, while addressing the press in Kaduna, according to NAN,

What the Kaduna State government is saying

Aruwan said that the State Government had contacted relevant federal agencies to effect the immediate restoration of the services.

He had recalled that in October 2021 security agencies had requested the shutdown of telecoms services as part of the measures to address the problem of banditry and related crimes.

The Commissioner said, “The security agencies have notified the government that telecom services can now be restored. The initial shutdown, along with other measures, had helped the security agencies to achieve some results.’’

He said it was unfortunate that the measure, had its negative impact on the legitimate activities of citizens and businesses assuring residents that the restoration of full services in the affected area would be full achieved in a few days.

Aruwan was full of praise for the Kaduna state residents for their sacrifices during the temporary shutdown and expressed regrets for inconveniences caused the affected areas.

The Commissioner, however, said other measures, on security measures aimed at combating crimes in the affected areas, remained in force.

He said, “These include; prohibition of movement of motorcycle, the ban on weekly market, transportation of cattle and sales of cattle across the state.’’

In case you missed it

Recall that in September 30, 2021, the Kaduna State Government had joined three other states in the Northern part of Nigeria – Sokoto, Zamfara and Katsina – to order telecommunications firms to suspend their services and becoming the fourth state to do so.
