Like other countries, the Lebanese Government has evacuated its citizens from Nigeria due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

The Lebanese government ordered Middle East Airlines to evacuate its citizens from Nigeria, Cote D’Ivoire, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates on Sunday April 5, 2020 from Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos.

Nairametrics understands that no less than 140 Lebanese nationals were flown out of the Airport by the Middle East Airlines as part of the humanitarian flight services, which got the approval of the Nigerian Ministry of Aviation.

Prior to the evacuation, the airline had made a series of announcements calling on Lebanese nationals interested in returning to Lebanon to get ready for repatriation.

“Middle East Airlines – Air Liban announces that as of April 5th, 2020 and upon the Lebanese Government’s request, MEA will operate successive repatriation trips to evacuate Lebanese expatriates and nationals from abroad, according to the conditions imposed by the concerned Lebanese Authorities.

“MEA will publish its scheduled flights as soon as we receive approval from authorities concerned at the originating country. Lebanese nationals and expatriates wishing to return to Lebanon and whose names are listed and prepared by the Lebanese embassies abroad are asked to contact MEA outstations sales to reserve and issue their tickets,” the airline stated.

Meanwhile, foreign nationals have continued to return to their countries as 37 Egyptians were reportedly evacuated out of the country through the Sam Mbakwe International Airport. Canadian and American citizens are also set to be evacuated today.

Recall that the Federal Government had announced that Nigerians stranded abroad would also be evacuated provided they bear the financial implications and agree to be compulsorily quarantined upon their return to the country.
