Nigerian Stock Exchange turns negative year to date

The Nigerian Stock Exchange slipped into negative territory, year to date, after 5 consecutive days of bear markets.

The All Share Index closed today’s trading session at 31,313.36 basis points down 1.02%. Year to date, the index is down 0.37%. 

Top Gainers and Losers 

Law Union and Rock Insurance Plc was the best performing stock today. The stock gained 7.69% to close at N0.56. UPDC Plc was next with 7.14% to close at N1.95. United Capital Plc rounds up the top three gainers for the day. The stock gained 4.13% to close at N3.28

On the flip side, International Breweries Plc fell by9.93% to close at N24.05. AG Leventis Plc shed 8.82% to close at N0.31. Jaiz Bank Plc rounds up the top three losers for the day. The stock fell by 8.62% to close at N0.53.  

Top Trades by Volume  

FBN Holdings Plc was the most actively traded stock today. 60.1 million shares valued at N493 million were traded in 296 deals. Zenith Bank Plc was next with 46.4 million shares valued at N1 billion traded in 325 deals.

Diamond Bank Plc rounds up the top three most actively trade with 14.4 million shares valued at N35.3 million traded in 101 deals.  

Corporate Action

FCMB Group Plc has announced the retirement of Mr. Bismarck Rewane from the board of the company. This follows the acceptance of his retirement by the company’s board at a meeting held on March 8, 2019.
