May began on a bearish note on the Nigerian Stock Exchange as the NSE All-Share depreciated by 0.06% to close the week at 41,218.72 basis points. Year to date, the index is up 7.78%.

A total of 37 equities appreciated in price during the week, 32 depreciated in price, while 100 equities remained unchanged.

Gainers

C & I Leasing Plc

C & I Leasing was the biggest gainer in this week’s trading session. The stock opened at N1.39 and closed at N1.80, up N0.41 or 29.50%. Year to date, the stock is up 39.53%.

The company had recently indicated its intentions to raise funds through a bond offer. Proceeds will be used to pay down debt and acquire more vessels.

C & I Leasing recently released its Q1 2018 results. Gross Earnings increased from N6 billion in 2017 to N6.4 billion in 2018. Profit before tax also moved from N305 million in 2017 to N405 million in 2018.

Unity Bank Plc

Unity Bank opened at N1 and closed at N1.20, gaining N0.20 or 20%. Year to date, the stock is up 126.42%.

The bank is, however, yet to release its financial statements for the year ended December 2017.

Veritas Kapital Assurance Plc

Veritas Kapital Assurance is an insurance firm which was hitherto a subsidiary of Unity bank.

It opened at N0.28 and closed at N0.33, gaining N0.05 or 17.86%. Year to date, the stock is down 34%.

The company this week sent a notice to the NSE, that it would submit its Q1 2018 results alongside its FY 2017 financial statements before the 31st of May.

Cement Company of Northern Nigeria Plc

CCNN gained 14.62% this week. The stock opened at N19.50 and closed at N22.35, up N2.85.

Year to date, the stock is up 135.26%, making it the 2nd best performing stock year to date.

Beta Glass Plc

Beta Glass Plc manufactures, distributes and sells glass bottles and containers. The Company has manufacturing plants in Agbara, Ogun state and Ughelli, Delta state.

Beta glass opened at N75.50 and closed at N83.20, gaining N7.70 or 10.20%. Year to date, the stock is up 62%.

Last week, the company released its financial statements for the 3 months ended March 2018. Revenue increased from N4.4 billion in 2017 to N6.4 billion in 2018. Profit before tax was 1.6 billion in 2018, as against N1.1 billion in 2017.

Livestock Feeds Plc

Livestock Feeds is a subsidiary of UAC of Nigeria Plc. The stock opened at N0.77 and closed at N0.84, gaining N0.07 or 9.09%.

Year to date, the stock is up 1.20%, down from its year high of N1.22 by 31.1%.

NPF Microfinance Bank Plc

NPF gained 8.57% this week. The stock opened at N1.75 and closed at N1.90, up N0.15. Year to date, the stock is up 52%.

Mutual Benefits Assurance Plc

Mutual Benefits Assurance is an insurance firm. The stock opened at N0.24 and closed at N0.26, up N0.02 or 8.33%. Year to date, the stock is down 52%.

The company recently sent a notice to the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), intimating it of a further delay in the release of its Q1 2018 financial statements. This is because it is yet to obtain approval for FY 2017 financial statements.

Union Bank Plc

Union Bank gained 7.20% this week. The stock opened at N6.20 and closed at N6.70, up N0.45.  Year to date, the stock is down 14.1%.

The company this week informed the NSE of a further delay in the release of its FY 2017 financial statements.

Vitafoam Plc

Vitafoam Plc opened at N3.10 and closed at N3.30, up N0.20 or 6.45%. Year to date, the stock is up 10%.  

The company released its financial statements for the 6 months ended March 2018, last week. Revenue increased from N10.5 billion in 2017 to N10.7 billion in 2018. Profit before tax also increased from N313 million in 2017 to N486 million in 2018.

Top Losers

Dangote Flour Mills Plc

Dangote Flour Mills was the week’s biggest loser, dropping by 18.57%. The stock opened at N14 and closed at N11.40, down N2.60.

Year to date, the stock is down 6.17%. The company is currently trading at 32.5% below its year high of N16.90.

Eterna Plc

Eterna Plc is a company operating in the downstream oil and gas sector. The stock opened at N6.60 and closed at N5.74, down N0.86 or 13.03%.

Year to date, the stock is up 41.38%.

Prestige Assurance Plc

Prestige Assurance lost 11.76% this week. The stock opened at N0.51 and closed at N0.45, down N0.06.

Year to date, Prestige is down 10%.

Dangote Sugar Refinery Plc

Dangote Sugar is into the refining and sales of sugar.

It opened at N24.40 and closed at N19, shedding N2.40 or 11.21%. Year to date, the stock is down 5%. The stock is currently trading down 18.6% from its year high of N23.35.

Dangote Sugar last week released its financial statements for the 3 months ended March 2018. Revenue dropped from N59 billion in 2017 to N41 billion in 2018. Profit before tax increased from N7 billion in 2017 to N8.3 billion in 2018.

Regency Alliance Insurance Plc

Regency Alliance closed down 10% this week. The stock opened at N0.30 and closed at N0.27, down N0.03.  Year to date, the stock is down 46%.

Regency Alliance was this week marked down by N0.03, following a payment of a dividend.

Oando Plc

Oando opened at N9.15 and closed at N8.35, down N0.80 or 8.74%. Year to date, the stock is up 39.40%, making it the 2nd best performing stock in the oil and gas sector.

Chams Plc

Chams Plc operates in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) space. The stock opened at N0.46 and closed at N0.42, down 8.70%. Year to date, the stock is down 16%.

Japaul Oil and Maritime Services Plc

Japaul opened at N0.50 and closed at N0.46, losing N0.04 or 8%. Year to date, the stock is down 8%.

Wapic Insurance Plc

Wapic Insurance shed 7.02% this week. The stock opened at N0.57 and closed at N0.53, down N0.04.

Year to date, the stock is up 6%. It is currently trading 29.3% below its year high of N0.75.

Niger Insurance Plc

Niger Insurance opened at N0.30 and closed at N0.28, down 6.67% or N0.02. Year to date, the stock is down 44%.

The company had last week sent a notice to the NSE, stating that its FY 2017 results were before industry regulator NAICOM but it was yet to receive approval.
