Mr. Chris Lee, the Country Manager of Miniso, has said that Miniso is planning to create employment for Nigerians by establishing 500 stores across Nigeria by 2019. Miniso expressed its commitment to employ about 30,000 Nigerians thus reducing Nigeria’s current unemployment rate by a minimum of 0.99%.
At a press briefing recently held in Lagos, Mr. Chris Lee also said that the Japanese designer brand is scheduled to have its opening ceremony across 3 major malls in Lagos concurrently during the first week of September; namely: Ikeja City mall, Circle mall and Novare mall. He further disclosed that 3 more stores will be opened along Festac, Maryland and Lekki at the end of September.
“We strive to provide consumers with simple, natural and quality products, at lower prices, so as to give the consumers an exciting and happy shopping experience.
“The firm’s products include home necessities, health and beauty products, fashion, gadgets, digital accessories as well as stationeries” said Mr. Chris Lee.
Asides declaring its commitment to reduce unemployment in Nigeria; Miniso will begin procuring most of its raw materials locally in the long run and also establish a retail focused educational system, Miniso’s University, which aims to transfer standard retail knowledge to Nigerians.
Miniso Nigeria has also revealed Mrs. Stephanie Linus, a Nollywood Actress, Director and Producer as its Brand Ambassador.
This investment by Miniso in Nigeria will further add to her Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) which according to the Q2 2017 report of capital importation by FDI by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) stands at $274.4 million.
Listed as the Number One (1) fastest growing retail brand, since her establishment in Japan in 2013, MINISO has actively explored the international retail market by opening over 2,250 stores in more than 41 countries and close to 15 countries underway, with a turnover of USD 750 million in 2015 and USD 1.5 billion in 2016.
