The Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Customs Service, Selechang Taupyen announced during the week, at Seme Command, that the command had generated a revenue of N189.8 million more in March as against the previous months.
The PRO stated that it was able to receive above 94% of its revenue from listed channels bringing its revenue total to N963.7, notwithstanding the various challenges encountered by the command.
“It is pertinent to note that one of the challenges which affected the revenue generation of the commands is the two rounds of presidential elections that took place in March in Benin Republic.
“There were also security challenges during the Easter holiday. The high exchange rate and the deplorable state of the Lagos-Seme road but we were still able to achieve this.
“We are committed to generating maximum revenue despite all the hiccups and we would not use such challenges as excuses,’’ Taupyen said.
The custom’s spokeman urged Nigerians to shy away from smuggling, saying that the command has zero tolerance for smuggling and have made 60 seizures with a Duty Paid Value (DVP) of N115.8 million to that effect.
