As Africa’s top crude oil producer seeks to boost output of refined fuel and end its dependence on importation, it was discovered that Seplat Petroleum Dev. Co. and Vitol SA are among nine companies that submitted bids to construct new oil refineries in Nigeria.
According to the Group Public Relations Head of the NNPC, Garba – Deen Mohammed, successful companies will build near existing state-owned plants and add at least 250,000 barrels per day of refining capacity to the current 445,000 barrels.
Anibo Kragha, the NNPC’s chief operating officer in charge of refineries, was quoted to have said that “The aim is to leverage on the existing facilities to fast-track the take-off of the refineries as soon as possible,”
General Manager, Supply Chain Management,NNPC, Sophia Mbakwe advised all the companies to accept the outcome of the biding process assuring them of total transparency.
