I decided I was going to take my wife out on a weekend treat sometime last year. Having combed through all the possible hot spots in Lagos we decided to settle for Ocean Basket. Ocean Basket is located on Tiamiu Savage, Victoria Island and is an extension of a South African franchise. They are a Sea Food restaurant offering lovely delicacies of sea food and served both continentally and locally.
The restaurant is a story building with the upper deck spaciously spread for dates and can also cater for group eat outs as well as take away orders. The upper deck level also extends to the balconies located to the east as you walk in stretching all the way in a crescent like form. The ground floor also provides for space of sitting but is often used for patient customers who are looking to buy take away sea food.
For lovers of Sea Food and those who are just getting familiar with the array of delicacies sea food provides, Ocean Basket is the perfect place to gladden your taste buds. Their food is very well made and remarkably delicious. Grilled or fried Fish, Shrimps and Prawns Platter, Pasta, Calamari, Dover, Rice etc are all nicely done and with a sizeable quantity befitting of the price. They also serve up alcoholic or non-alcoholic drinks to go with the meal. Their waiters and waitresses are also quite courteous and always smiling even though a lot of the smile and courtesy is in response to the impatience exerted by hungry customers.
Ocean Basket is not where you want to be when you are really hungry considering the time it takes to serve up a meal. In fact, on the day I visited with my wife, we angrily had to leave in protest without paying for our orders after we had waited nearly an hour to get a meal that was perpetually on its way. It is not strange to see most customers finish their drink orders before the meal is finally served. For groups this may not be easily noticeable as the noise from chit chats and the silky low toned music blazes by through your ear drums.
Ocean Basket opened last fall promising to bring to Nigeria quality Sea Food. The restaurant is beautiful and the food of the highest quality, at least locally. The owners may have to work really hard, either by increasing their Chef overheads or purchasing new cooking equipments that offer shorter food delivery times. Without this the beauty in the food will soon be smeared by the anger of a hungry man. No one enjoys eating food angry.
