The deposed Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has sued the Inspectors General of Police (IGP) and the Director-General, Directorate of State Service (DSS) for an order for his release in banishment.
Sanusi, through his lawyers, led by Lateef Fagbemi, on Thursday, filed a suit before the Federal High Court in Abuja for an order to release him from detention and or confinement.
The filed suit was marked FHC/ABJ/CS/357/2020.

It would be recalled that the former CBN Governor was taken to Awe in Nasarawa since his dethronement on Monday.
The deposed Emir of Kano is seeking an interim order of the court directing his immediate release from confinement.
He prayed to the court to order his immediate release from the detention and or confinement of the respondents and subsequently restore his rights to human dignity, personal liberty, freedom of association and movement in Nigeria excluding Kano State, pending the hearing and determination of his originating summons.
The respondents in the suit include the Inspector General of Police (IGP), the Director-General of the Department of State Service (DSS), the Attorney General of Kano State and the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF).
Some of the other lawyers in the deposed Emir’s legal team include the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) President, Paul Usoro, Professor Koyinsola Ajayi, A.B. Mahmoud, Professor Ernest Ojukwu, Funke Aboyade and many others.
There were reports that Sanusi, who had several running battles with the Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje before his dethronement, would prefer to move to Lagos rather than the remote town that he was banished to in Nassarawa State.
I strongly support doing away with some of this despot, selfish, inhuman, degrading and retrogressive customs and traditions. We are not in the dark ages anymore, whereby a man plays God, king and subjects and is the point of determinants of the subconscious evolution of its inhabitants. Democracy has opened up the avenue for all to be part of this evolution. I support this landmark court case.
