The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has debunked a report claiming that the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Company Plc, has no capacity to print more new notes to address the current naira scarcity.

The CBN in a statement signed by its Director of Corporate Communications, Osita Nwanisobi, said the report, which was attributed to the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, was misleading. According to Nwanisobi, the CBN Governor was misquoted.

The disclaimer: The Director of Corporate Communications in the statement released on Saturday said:

He added that the CBN remains committed to performing its monetary policy functions, as stipulated in the CBN Act, 2007, as amended. He also restated that the NSPMC has the capacity and enough materials to produce the required indent of the Naira.

No plan to shut down any bank: In a similar development, the CBN also denied speculations that it planned to shut down some banks, particularly in a particular geo-political region of the country.
