Nigeria’s government has praised America’s removal of Nigeria from its list of religious violators, stating that it is committed to promoting religious harmony in the nation.

This was disclosed by Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, in a statement in France, on Thursday.

He stated that Nigeria will keep working to protect the religious freedom of individuals backed by the constitution.

What Lai Mohammed said about religious freedom in Nigeria

”We will continue to ensure that every Nigerian has the freedom to practice his or her own chosen religion or belief without hindrance,” the minister said.

He praised religious leaders in the country for protecting religious harmony in the country and ensuring peace between religions, adding that the Nigerian government does not engage in religious freedom violations.

In case you missed it

Nairametrics reported earlier that the United States Government excluded Nigeria from its list of religious violators just as it has blacklisted China, Russia, Saudi Arabia and 7 other nations as countries of particular concern for engaging in or tolerating systemic, ongoing and egregious violations of religious freedom.

Nigeria, which was placed on the list of religious violators in 2020 by the US for engaging and tolerating the severe violation of religious freedom, was missing in the new list of countries designated in 2021 for religious violations.

U.S Secretary of State, Blinken said the US will not waver in its commitment to advocate for freedom of religion or belief for all and in every country, as they continue to see governments harass, arrest, threaten, jail, and kill individuals simply for seeking to live their lives in accordance with their beliefs in too many places around the world.
