Unilever Plc loses N6.32 billion in market value as share price declines by 7.53%

Unilever Plc share price depreciated by 7.53% to close at N13.50 per share, taking the market capitalization from N83.88 billion to N77.56 billion.

Unilever Plc, today recorded a loss in share price which can be attributed to investors’ negative sentiment which triggered sell-offs in the shares of the company, inducing a loss of N6.32 billion in market capitalization at the close of trading activities on Nigeria’s Exchange.

The shares of the FMCG company declined from N14.60 per share at the start of the trading day to N13.50 per share, the lowest price traded at the close of the market, to represent a decline of 7.53% which in monetary terms is N1.10.

Stock performance summary

The sell-offs witnessed in the shares of Unilever negatively influenced the company’s market capitalization from N83.88 billion to N77.56 billion at the end of today’s trading activities, taking the loss to N6.32 billion.

The shares of Unilever Plc have declined by 2.88% from year-to-date, starting the year at N13.90 and currently trading at N13.50.

However, the shares of the company have returned about 18.42% gains for investors who bought them at their 52-week low trading price of N11.40 per share.

During today’s trading hours, 1,282,607 ordinary shares of Unilever Plc worth about N17.55 million, were exchanged in 64 executed deals.
In comparison, the shares of Nestle Plc closed flat at N1390.00 at the end of today’s trading session. While shares of PZ Plc declined by 4.13% to close at N5.80.

What you should know

At the end of today’s trading activities, the NGX All-Share Index and market capitalization depreciated by 0.22% from the previous trading day, to close at 43,349.90 index points and N22.62 trillion respectively.

The NGX Consumer Goods Index depreciated by 0.66% to close the day at 563.27 from 567.01 index points.
