Nigerian Airports record 6.4 million passengers in the first half of 2021

6,420,820 passengers passed through Nigeria’s airports in the first half of the year, which is a 50.7% increase compared to 4,267, 409 compared to the same period last year.

This was disclosed in the Passengers Traffic Statistics Report by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) on Sunday, according to NAN

The report also indicates 5,513,098 of the passengers were domestic and 907,722 international travellers.

What FAAN is saying

FAAN revealed that the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos processed the highest number of international travellers with 670,938 passengers, followed by Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja with 225,985 in the first half of 2021.

Meanwhile for domestic passengers, the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport came top with 1,974,249 passengers, Lagos airport with 1,786,236, Port Harcourt with 377,679 passengers; Enugu – 231,669; and Kano – 225,870.

Both Lagos and Abuja airports accounted for 760,485 out of a total of 5,513,098 or 68.2 per cent of all domestic arrivals and departures, and 896,923 out of a total of 907,722 or 98.8 per cent of all international passengers.

Nigeria’s top 5 airports also operated 126.4 million kilogrammes of cargo in the first half of the year, representing a 106% increase compared to 61.2 million for the same period last year, with the Lagos airport accounting for 113.9 million kilogrammes of the total cargo operations of the five international airports.
