The management of Arik Air has suspended one of its staff caught by the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) demanding bribe at the domestic wing of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, pending further investigations.

This was confirmed by Ola Adebanji, Manager, Communications at Arik Air, on Wednesday.

This is coming after Nairametrics had reported that both government agencies and airlines extort passengers across Lagos and Abuja International airports.

What Arik Air is saying about the development

Arik’s Communications manager said,  “While the management conducts its own internal investigation, we wish to reassure FAAN of our cooperation on this matter if further investigation is required. We are fully in support of what FAAN is doing to rid our airports of this menace of corruption.”

In case you missed it

Nairametrics had reported that some of the Federal Government’s agencies (Police, Nigeria Immigration Service, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Customs) and airlines staff stationed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos and Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja, have continued to perpetrate ignoble acts tantamount to corruption, unabated extortion, demanding bribes or handouts from passengers at various points at the airports, whether on arrival or while departing.

On November 9, Nairametrics reported that FAAN had apprehended the staff while soliciting a bribe from a passenger at the airport in Lagos.

Consequently, the On Duty Card, ODT, of the staff had been withdrawn by FAAN and handed over to the relevant security agency for appropriate action in order to serve as a deterrent to other ”bad eggs in the airport.

Is the issue of theft in the airport also looked at.
Bags of passengers arriving the country are broken and goods stolen.
The last time my family menbee returned. The big Padlock used in their luggage was cut.
This also should be addressed cause it’s a norm.

This country is such a den of criminals. Nothing is safe anymore. The leaders and their representatives are so shameless. With the level of crime committed at the top, who will talk or address the one carried out by the people. This country is so disgusting and irritating under this present administration.
