On Tuesday, Tottenham Hotspur announced the appointment of Antonio Conte via a club statement hours after sacking their former Head Coach, Nuno Espirito Santo.

The former Chelsea manager has returned to English football to replace Nuno Espirito as Tottenham Head Coach following his sacking on Monday night.

The Portuguese was relieved of his duties on Monday following Tottenham’s 3-0 loss to Manchester United on Saturday. The loss was Spurs fifth Premier League loss in seven games, leading to Espirito’s sack within less than five months at the club.

Antonio Conte’s lucrative contract

The 52-year-old Italian has signed an 18 months contract as the Head Coach of Tottenham Hotspur which will run till summer of 2023 with an option to extend for a year, according to The SUN.

  • He is set to earn £15million per year on an 18 months contract which means he would earn a cool £22.5million throughout his contract with an option of extension.
  • The £15million per year contract works out at around £290,000 per week as the new Tottenham boss.
  • The contract would also rank him as the second highest earner at the English league only behind Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola who rakes in £20million per year and on par with Liverpool’s Jürgen Klopp who earns same as the Spurs boss.

What Conte is saying about his appointment

Upon his appointment, the Italian told the club website, “I am extremely happy to return to coaching, and to do so at a Premier League club that has the ambition to be a protagonist again.

“Tottenham Hotspur has state-of-the-art facilities and one of the best stadiums in the world.

“I can’t wait to start working to convey to the team and the fans the passion, mentality and determination that have always distinguished me, as a player and as a coach.”

Prior to Nuno Espirito’s appointment last year June, Tottenham made an approach to the Italian, however, the talks broke down. Reacting to his earlier decline of Tottenham’s invitation, Conte however stated that it was not the right time for him to return to coaching as the invitation followed his immediate departure from Inter.
