This disclosure was made by the Chief Executive Officer of Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority, Mr. Bashir Are, while speaking on the commencement of the Agents’ Registration Platform which took effect from Monday, August 2, 2021, stressing that all Gaming Agents operating in the State are required to register on the site.

He charged Gaming Agents to endeavour to register on the platform on or before Friday, 29th October 2021 to avoid sanction, adding that all necessary training and exposure had been obliged to them.

The CEO reaffirmed that the Agency is the only authorised gaming regulatory body established by the Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority Law 2021 to license and regulate lotteries and related gaming activities in the State.

Are assured that the authority remains committed to protecting the interest of all stakeholders in the gaming sector in addition to highlighting the benefits of the registration exercise which includes protecting the interest of Lagos State Gaming Agents, flushing out fraudulent agents, and granting access to Lagos State registered and licensed gaming operators.

He said, “Other benefits are the permit fees, which serve as Pay As You Earn (PAYE Tax) to Lagos State Internal Revenue Services (LIRS), Issuance of recognised State identity number as well as granting the Agents direct access to SME loans amongst others.’’

What you should know

  • Lagos state has been at the forefront of the gaming and betting industry and that is essentially the reason why the Lagos State Lotteries Board was established by the Lagos State Lotteries Law 2004 (as amended) to license and regulate lotteries and related gaming activities conducted within the state
  • The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in April 2021, assented to the Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority Bill of 2021, initiated by the executive arm to coordinate activities of lotteries agencies operating within the State.
  • After the signing of the two bills into law, Sanwo-Olu said the action was a testimony to the State Government’s effort towards entrenching accountability in governance and checking malfeasance among officers entrusted with public resources.
