#EndSARS: Lagos to prosecute 229 suspects for looting and vandalizing public and private properties

Lagos State Government has disclosed that it will be prosecuting 229 suspects who allegedly took advantage of the #EndSARS protests to vandalize and loot public and private properties in different parts of the State.

This disclosure was made by Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Moyosore Onigbanjo, SAN, in a statement issued to the general public via social media.

“229 suspects were arrested by the Police for various criminal offences ranging from arson, murder, stealing, malicious damage of property and assault before and after the Statewide curfew imposed by the Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu to restore law and order in Lagos,” the Commissioner stated.

Recall that some hoodlums hijacked the peaceful protest of youths against brutality by operatives of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) and other police personnel tagged #EndSARS to wreak havoc and disturb the peace in the State.

Mr. Moyosore Onigbanjo, disclosed that the government will be prosecuting these suspects with prima facie cases, who allegedly took advantage of the #EndSARS protests to destroy and loot public and private properties in different parts of the State.

However, he called on Lagosians to maintain peace, law and order in their respective communities, pledging the commitment of the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu-led administration to uphold the rule of law at all times.

The Lagos State Attorney-General revealed that the State Director of Public Prosecution, Mrs. Olayinka Adeyemi has gone round relevant Police formations with a team of Prosecutors to evaluate files of those arrested by the police with a view to determining those that have prima facie case made against them.

What to expect

According to statements reaching Nairametrics, after the conclusion of the evaluation exercise, those who have cases to answer will be arraigned before the Courts on Monday while others will be released.

    Good to prosecute them, but before that those military who escalated the situation by shooting the protesters which lead to Lost of lives and provoct the destructions of property and looting,
    Justice has not been made and can not be made without prosecution of the military personnel and every personality and persons involved in the act of the military shooting !!!

    The Police force is a mess if arresting these people is easy for them, forgotten that they are products of corruption from corrupt leaders and those leaders who loots our country’s treasure are too big to be arrested. Shame on you Nigerian Police
