COVID-19: Ekiti workers, top officials donate over N48.7million from salaries

Ekiti State Government has stated that its civil servants and top government officials voluntarily donated N48.71 million to the fight against Coronavirus Disease.

This was disclosed by the state Governor, Kayode Fayemi, via his Twitter handle.

According to the tweet, the workers in the Ekiti state civil service donated N2,912,472, while top government functionaries and political appointees donated N45,797,017. The donations were deducted from their salaries.

He added that the state received a total of N694.58 million from 217 donors, including individuals and corporate organisations to support its efforts in containing Coronavirus.

Other donations

The state also received thousands of bags of rice, cartons of noodles, semovita, vegetable oil and other food items from some of the contributors.

Among the non-food support received by the government were free fumigation of its markets, thousands of hand sanitizers, free media campaigns, donations of medical supplies, and ventilators to its healthcare system.

The Governor, in his tweet, appreciated all donors and contributors who had lent a hand of support to the state in its fight against the novel virus.
