Telecommunication giant, MTN Nigeria Plc, has outlined some precautionary measures to safeguard its staff and shown support for its customers.
This was disclosed in a notification which was signed by the company secretary, Uto Ukpanah and sent to the Nigerian Stock Exchange.
In the statement, which was made available to the public, MTN, announced the following measures:
- From Monday, March 23, most of its staff would start working from home as the company assured that its operations would continue to run at full scale with essential staff working limited hours on site.
- As part of a concerted effort to support its customers, MTN Nigeria would help amplify government’s sensitization efforts using more channels to deliver health and safety information and would suspend fees for all money transfers using its Momo Agent network.
- The company will temporary closure of some of its stores. The ones that will remain open will operate reduced hours and maintain strict hygiene and social distancing measures.

In the past one month, MTN Nigeria had introduced some precautionary measures in its facilities nationwide, suspended all non-critical business meetings, travel and events and activated travel-related self-isolation protocols. It has also complemented government’s sensitization drive, introduced rigorous cleaning measures and equipped team members with additional sanitation and safety products.
The telecommunication firm expressed deep concern over the coronavirus pandemic that has become a global threat and is closely monitoring the situation as it unfolds. It believes that companies as part of their corporate social responsibility should contain the escalating outbreak and safeguard operations so that economies can keep moving and societies can continue to function.
The company is mindful of the unique role it has to keep Nigeria and Nigerians connected to the people they love and the information and technology they need, and as such has adjusted its internal policies and made a few changes on how to serve its customers.
MTN Nigeria has also assured of its plans to continuously engage and actively pursue new ways to leverage its core expertise, technology and infrastructure in order to support government’s effort to keep citizens safe.
