President Muhammadu Buhari has, today, appointed Mr. Mele Kolo Kyari as the new Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), alongside 7 new Chief Operating Officers to work with the current office holders till 7th of July, 2019.
The announcement was disclosed by the Group General Manager, Group public affairs Division, of the NNPC, Mr. Ndu Ughamadu, today, in Abuja.

Kyari’s appointment: The appointment of Kyari as the new GMD of the petroleum corporation is as a result of the mandatory retirement of the outgoing GMD of the NNPC, Dr. Maikanti Baru, who clocks the retirement age of 60 years on 7th July, 2019. Hence, the re-appointment makes Kyari the 19th Group Managing Director of the NNPC.
Presidential directive: Meanwhile, President Buhari has directed the new GMD and the newly appointed Chief Operating Officers to work with the current occupiers of the various offices until they assume office on the 7th of July, 2019 to ensure a smooth transition on the 8th of July, 2019.
However, the appointment of Mr. Farouk Garba as the new Chief Operating Officer for the North West zone, is to take effect from 28th of June, 2019 as he is set to replace a retiring Chief Operating Officer.
Meanwhile, the outgoing GMD of the NNPC, Dr. Maikanti Baru, has congratulated the new appointees on their new quest.
