President Muhammadu Buhari has confirmed the re-appointment of Mr. Ahmed Idris as the Account General of the Federation.

The re-appointment of Ahmed Idris was disclosed on Wednesday in Abuja, by the Director of Communications, Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHoSCF), Mrs. Wunmi Ogunmosunle.

According to the statement seen by Nairametrics, the appointment will take effect from June 25, 2019. It was also revealed that Idris’ reappointment is in accordance with Section 171 of the 1999 Constitution.

“The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Mr. Ahmed Idris for the second and final term of four years as Accountant General of the Federation, AGF, in accordance with Section 171 of the 199 Constitution of Nigeria (as amended).”

Further Details: Idris’ re-appointment is President Buhari’s first appointment since the start of his second term as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It should be noted the President has already come under heavy criticisms due to his refusal to make appointments three weeks after his inauguration for his second term.

Idris was first appointed as Accountant General in June 2015. He had served as Director of Finance and Account at the Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel Development. He also served as Director of Finance and Accounts at the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) headquarters in Abuja.

Still on his background: Ahmed Idris is a chartered accountant with over two decades of work experience. A Fellow of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria and Fellow, Association of Financial Analysts of Nigeria, he is Member of other professional bodies including Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, Certified Institute of Cost Management of Nigeria, and Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.

Idris’ re-appointment could be an indication that more announcements would be expected in the coming days and weeks. It is also a strong indication that the President has finally begun restructuring his cabinet for his second term administration. Earlier on Thursday, the presidency confirmed the appointment of Mr. Mele Kolo Kyari as the new Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), alongside 7 new Chief Operating Officers to work with the current office holders till 7th of July, 2019.

Mr Ahmed Idris is not a Chartered Accountant judging from your statement. Instead he is a certified accountant since you said he belongs to ANAN.
