Globacom Nigeria Limited said it has mapped out plans that would help position the Nigerian economy on the right digital path. These plans would also enable the telecom company to rival its many competitors, or so it hopes.

Unveiling the plans over the weekend during an event in Lagos, the Globacom’s top executives explained some innovations that have been put in place by the company to revolutionise the industry in 2019.

These include, among other things, the use of Artificial Intelligence to deepen Glo customers’ user experience, the executives said.

In specific terms, Glo will launch an Artificial Intelligence platform which will directly interact with customers, whilst helping them with any kind of assistance. These include helping customers to choose the right data plan and call credit, as well as help resolve other issues such as balance enquiry/Value Added Service (VAS). The service will be available 24/7.

Perhaps this is revolutionary after all, seeing as there are currently no telecoms company in the country that makes use of artificial intelligence for customer care. That notwithstanding, Globacom has its job cut out for it as it battles the likes of MTN Nigeria, Airtel, and 9Mobile for market dominance.

The company recently announced that it would be expanding several billions of naira towards the development of its 4G network across the country.

The move became imperative as a way of accommodating increased traffic on the network which has been caused by new users on the network.

As we reported, the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, had reported that Globacom Nigeria gained 2 million new subscribers in 2018. This is the highest number of new subscribers gained by any network provider in the country during the 2018 period.

Since its emergence on the Nigerian telecommunications scene in 2004, the company has been engaged in fierce competition with MTN Nigeria and the others, as they battle for the position of telco king. Maybe the latest efforts being made by the company’s management will finally position it in a more advantageous position.
