DAAR Awards 2019, the celebration of excellence put together by DAAR Communications PLC as part of their corporate social responsibility and commitment to promoting excellence in Africa continues to serve the heat as Nigerians struggle to decide which outstanding performers over the calendar year of 2018 get to work away with the plagues and bragging rights.
The newest darling of the Nigerian music industry, Teni the Entertainer leads the Breakout star of the year award category– but only just– with Legbegbe’ crooner, Mr. Real, Chinko Ekun and Victor AD not far behind.
Across town, Ms. Genevieve Nnaji’s Lion Heart, the first Nigerian movie to premier of Netflix, faces stiff competition from other fan favorites including the hilarious ‘Merry Men’ and the audacious ‘Chief Daddy’ for Nollywood Movie of the year. While on social media: Maraji, Lasisi Elenu and Broda Shaggy remained locked in a three-horse race for Social Media Comedy skit of the year, with fans seemingly caught between favorites.
Speaking on the polls, Mr. Ikechukwu Maduka, DAAR Awards’ digital communications strategist stated, “We have seen some very interesting selections from Nigerians across the globe. The passion with which they have campaigned and supported their candidates inspires us to believe in the future of our continent and continue to reward excellence”.
In the political category, the Man of the Year category continues to astound as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar pulls farther away from the chasing pack of President Muhammadu Buhari, Aliko Dangote and Chief Justice Onnoghen. But voters are torn between Deji Adeyunju and Segalinks for the Most Courageous Political Activist of the year award. So much that it was described as, “choosing between your mum and dad”.
The polls remain open on Twitter ‘@daarawards’; as well on the official facebook page ‘daarawards’, instagram ‘daarawards’ and via the event’s website, ‘www.daarawards.com’ until midnight, Wednesday, 16th of January, 2019.
