Cornerstone Insurance leads this week’s gainers as NSE closes on negative note

This week was a red one on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) as trading ended on a negative note. The All Share Index opened at 30,638.90 basis points and closed at 29,830.70 basis points down 808.20 basis points or 2.64%.

22 equities appreciated in price during the week, the same with the previous week. 44 equities depreciated in price, lower than 45 of the previous week, while 103 equities remained unchanged, higher than 97 equities recorded in the preceding week.

Top Gainers

Julius Berger Plc

Julius Berger Plc was the best performing stock this week. The stock gained 22.15%, opening at ₦23.25 and closing at ₦28.40, up ₦5.15. Year to date, the stock is up 41.29%.

Transcorp Plc 

Transnational Corporation Plc opened the week at ₦1.16 and closed at ₦1.29, up ₦0.13 or 11.21%. Year to date, the stock is down 2.27%.

Wapic Insurance Plc

Wapic Insurance gained 10% this week. The stock opened at ₦0.40 and closed at ₦0.44, up ₦0.04. Year to date, the stock is up 4.76%.

Cornerstone Insurance Plc

Cornerstone Insurance also rose by 10% this week. The stock opened at ₦0.20 and closed at ₦0.22, up ₦0.02. Year to date, the stock is also up by the same margin.

John Holt Plc

John Holt Plc gained 9.09% this week. The stock opened at ₦0.44 and closed at ₦0.48, up ₦0.04. Year to date, the stock is up by the same margin.

Lafarge Africa Plc

Cement giant, Lafarge Africa Plc, opened at ₦11.30 and closed at ₦12.25, up ₦0.95 or 8.41%. Year to date, the stock is down 1.61%.

Cement Company of Northern Nigeria Plc

Cement Company of Northern Nigeria Plc (also known as Sokoto Cement ) appreciated by 8.40% this week. The stock opened at ₦18.45 and closed at ₦20, up ₦1.55 or 8.40%.

AG Leventis Plc

AG Leventis Plc opened the week at ₦0.27 and closed at ₦0.29, up ₦0.02 or 7.41%. Year to date, the stock is up by the same margin.

FCMB Group Plc 

FCMB Group Plc rounds up the top 10 gainers for the week. The stock opened at N1.62 and closed at N1.70, up N0.08 or 4.94%. Year to date the stock is down 10.08%.

NEM Insurance Plc

Earlier this week, VFD Group and several key investors announced the sale of a 30% stake in the company valued at ₦1.6 billion.

Resort Savings and Loans Plc shed 26%. The stock opened at ₦0.50 and closed at ₦0.37, down ₦0.13 or 26%. Year to date the stock is also down by the same margin.

Unity Bank Plc

Unity Bank Plc opened the week at ₦1 and closed at ₦0.83, down ₦0.17 or 17%. Year to date, the stock is down 22.43%.

Custodian Investment Plc

Custodian Investment Plc shed 13.11% this week. The stock opened at ₦6.10 and closed at ₦5.30, down ₦0.80. Year to date, the stock is down 6.18%.

Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc

Champion Breweries Plc opened at ₦1.72 and closed at ₦1.55, down ₦0.17 or 9.88%, Year to date, the stock is down 22.11%.

 UAC of Nigeria Plc

UAC of Nigeria Plc rounds up the top 10 losers for the week. The stock shed 9.3%, opening at ₦9.60 and closing at ₦8.70. Year to date, the stock is down 10.77%
