All Share Index closes positive for the second day running

NSE Nigerian stocks, UBA, Zenith, First Bank lead actively traded stocks on Tuesday , Courteville, Jaiz Bank, Transcorp lead gainers on Friday

The All Share Index closed on a positive note today at 35,206 basis points up 1.57%, for the second consecutive day running. Year to date, the index is down 7.94%

Top Gainers and Losers

Wapic Insurance was the best performing stock in today’s trading session. The stock closed at N0.32, up 8.82%. Next to it was Veritas Kapital Assurance which closed at N0.28, up 7.69%. Rounding up the top three gainers was Dangote Cement which closed at N230, up 6.98%.

Livestock Feeds Plc led the losing stocks today. The stock closed at N0.61, down 9.84%. Redstar Express closed at N5.15, down 9.65%. Jaiz Bank rounds up the top three losers for today closing at N0.48, down 9.43%.

Top Trades by Volume

UBA Plc was the top traded stock by volume. 54.3million shares valued at N436 million were traded in 321 deals. Next was Zenith Bank which traded 25.9 million shares valued at N571 million in 281 deals. Rounding up the top 3 was Firstbank which traded 14.1 million shares valued at N138 million in 261 deals.

Corporate Actions

Corporate actions are decisions taken by a company’s board of directors or management, that could have an impact on the firm itself or shareholders.

Examples of corporate actions include the payment of dividends, closing of shareholders’ registers, announcing qualification dates and Annual General Meeting (AGM) dates.

Cornerstone Insurance Plc

Cornerstone Insurance Plc will be holding its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Thursday, September 27, 2018.

The company has also announced the resignation of Mr. Ayo Osunbunmi as an Executive Director, effective 27th April 2018.

Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI)

Ecobank Trans International (ETI) made the following appointments:

Josephine Anan-Ankomah was appointed as Group Executive, Commercial Banking. She replaces Laurence do Rego who has been appointed to the position of Senior Advisor in the Group CEO’s Office. Prior to this appointment, Josephine Anan-Ankomah was the Managing Director of Ecobank Gambia.

Yves Mayilamene was appointed Group Executive, Human Resources, following the resignation of Julie Essiam early this year. Prior to his appointment, he was Deputy Group Head of Human Resources and Head of Human Resources for Ecobank Nigeria.

Paul-Harry Aithnard has been appointed Managing Director designate of Côte d’Ivoire & Regional Executive, UEMOA.

Prior to the announcement, he was Group Head, Securities, Wealth & Asset Management. Aithnard will replace Charles Daboiko, current Managing Director of Ecobank Côte d’Ivoire and Regional Executive of UEMOA, who will be retiring from the Bank in November 2018.

Fidelity Bank Plc

Fidelity Bank Plc has announced a closure period beginning August 22, 2018, until the audited Half-Year 2018 financial accounts are released on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange.

During the closure period, all insiders and their Connected Persons are prohibited from trading (i.e buying, selling, transferring or otherwise dealing) in the Bank’s shares.

Standard Alliance Insurance Plc

Standard Alliance Insurance Plc has released its results for the year ended December 2017. Gross Premium written increased from N4.3 billion in 2016 to N4.8 billion in 2017. The company made a profit before tax of N65.8 million in 2017 as against a loss before tax of N1.2 billion in 2016. The firm made a profit after tax of N58.5 million in 2017 as against a N1.3 billion loss recorded in the comparative period of 2016.
