Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Linkedin

As Nigeria grapples with the exit of the Etisalat brand, available data from the NCC shows that embattled 9mobile (formerly Etisalat) gained more subscribers than any other network in the month of May 2017.

According to the report on the website of the NCC , the telecommunication company had an increase in the number of new subscribers in the month of May before the recent Saga. 9 Mobile’s former technical partners, Etisalat UAE pulled out in late June 2017 and withdrew its brand name rights last week.

This is the last time the NCC report will feature the brand name “Etisalat” in its report and the last time it will take credit for anything positive for the country’s 4th largest mobile network.

Some analysts we spoke to believe the trend may reverse by the time July report is out sometime in September. It is expected that the impact of the negative news surrounding its withdrawal will be known by the time this report is made public.

What Inward and outward porting means

Incoming porting means the number of numbers porting from another service provider’s network into a service provider’s own network.

Outgoing porting on the other hand is the number of numbers porting to another service providers’ network from a service provider’s own network.
