Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Linkedin

Current Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele will probably go down in history as one of the most often criticized public office holders in Nigeria.

His policies, especially with forex, has obviously gotten under the skin of a lot of Nigerians particularly  amongst analysts and economist who have over time proven to be correct in their criticisms of the Governor.

Ostensibly, Emefiele has also developed a thick skin for critics and going by his latest rant has developed a new way of interpreting criticisms. Here is what he had to say about “unjust” criticisms.

“I must confess that though we have been unjustly castigated, from various quarters for our work, we remain certain that the actions we have taken are indeed appropriate to set our economy on the path of development in the medium to long-term.

“When you have policies that people are praising, that means such policies are not really good, because the people praising the policies know that they can circumvent them. But if people criticise your policies, especially in Nigeria, such policies are good; the people criticise them because they know that they cannot circumvent them.
“We should remain resolutely committed to the course and be motivated by the achievability of our desire to strengthen the economic fundamentals.

“When we stop importing toothpicks, stop eating imported rice cultivated with chemical, stop eating chicken imported and preserved with formaldehyde, then our economy will begin to grow.

“20 years ago, we had textile, we had the groundnut pyramids, we had Cocoa and palm oil. We also used revenue from agriculture to build our economy. But after we found oil, we abandoned all that for easy money. Today, we are suffering the consequences. ”

Love or hate the governor,i have discovered that this governor have a sense of humour, now, there are many many jokes told over the world through our history.Take ex-governor of sokoto, the first governor to introduced sharia law in Nigeria followed by others.i think it’s yerima, and one was to have his hand amputed or not for theft, after many years,he went to see our president then obasanjo, when obasanjo saw yerima he said Mr Yerima “is your hands still intact*
Some of the best jokes could be Reagan,Stalin or Kuruchev of the old soviet union,Stalin was from Georgia, and he was at one time of his life,he was a trainee priest in orthordox Church,Stalin uses to smokes pipe,at one time he lost his pipe and he could not find his pipe, nigerian do not forget soviet union was a police state, after sone day Stalin found his pipe, somewhere in his seatee,at the same time Beria(he was the head of secret police) came to see stalin to tell him that somebody have confessed to the stealing of Stalin’s pipe.
Even Hitler have a sense of Humour according to his private secretary.when some of western leaders at the ending of the world war 2nd,with American Roosvelt,Churchill of Britain and Stalin of Soviet Union meet at Teranhan to discusses the future of Europe, when Roosvelt saw Beria and he asked Stalin who is this man, Stalin said Oh “” Oh” “that is our Himmler”. Himmler is the head of Germany Nazi Security services,After the end of the world war Churchill came to see Stalin that they should see the pope Stalin said ” How many division of army does the pope have ?>
