Mark Zuckerberg quietly came into Lagos and visited the Co Creation hub in Yaba also tagged the Silicon Valley of Nigeria.
Zuckerberg, who is on his first trip to sub-Saharan Africa, met with entrepreneurs and software developers, and said he was here to learn about the startup ecosystem in Nigeria.
“The energy here is amazing and I’m excited to learn as much as I can” The Chief Executive Officer of Facebook said.
He also spoke about starting a free WiFi network in Lagos, whilst addressing entrepreneurs at the Co-Creation Hub in Yaba.
This is not the first time Mark Zuckerberg has shown interest in Nigeria. A few months back, Facebook launched the free basics in Nigeria and he also made mention of Jobberman when making an announcement of a partnership with Airtel Africa called Internet.org.
The free basics in Nigeria, will allow Nigerians access to news, health information and other services without having to pay for data on their mobile devices.
The visit of Zuckerberg to Nigeria could be a pivotal effect to the rest of Silicon Valley to take the business of Tech in Africa, especially Nigeria with a large market more seriously.
