Chairman of Innoson Motors, Nigeria’s first home made vehicle, Innoson Chukwuma received the Senate President Bukola Saraki and other senators at his company’s office yesterday.
The company last month sacked about 50% of its work force due to the dwindling fortune it was facing as a result of high cost of dollar and difficulty to procure foreign exchange for imported vehicles.
Senator Saraki said at the meeting that the parliament will continue to encourage domestic made products that will help to ease pressure on the naira.
“It was amazing to see the ingenuity and quality of Nigerian made products. In my remarks, I promised that the National Assembly would work on amending the Procurement Act by changing the word “may” to “shall” to ensure that Nigerian products are given first priority over their foreign counterparts in the procurement process.”
One of the senators who ordered for vehicles from the company was Ben Murray-Bruce who pushed for the hashtag #BuyNaijaToGrowTheNaira and #MadeInNigeria.
