Governor of Lagos State , Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, has revealed that Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company and Eko Electricity Distribution Company only supplied 1,000 megawatts of power, representing about 20% of the state’s power requirements.
He gave the figure at the Lagos House, Alausa while inaugurating the Lagos State Power Committee with a mandate to create an enabling environment that would ensure 24-hour power supply in the state. He also added that the current power supply was a huge shortfall from about 5,000 megawatts, which he said, was required to power commercial, industrial and private activities in the state.
The Governor observed that the state’s greatest impediments “are the low or non-investment in transmission capacity and high loss rate between generation and distribution.” He noted that these must be urgently addressed in order to achieve sustainable power for economic growth and development in Lagos State.
