The Nigerian Economic Summit is to focus on tracking corruption, insecurity and good governance.
While announcing this at a joint media briefing on Wednesday, the Secretary to the National Planning Commission, Mr. Bassey Akpayung, said the summit,which is the 21st in edition, has been designed to elicit deeper dialogue on how best to make tough choices considering the present global economic realities, which government needs to deal with.
Akpayung said the continuous decline in oil prices resulting in reduction in government revenue, insurgency in some parts of the country and rising unemployment rate, especially the youths also informed the choice of topics to be discussed at this year’s summit.
The summit has been scheduled to hold from Tuesday, October 13, 2015 to Thursday, October 15, 2015 at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja and is to be declared open by President Mohammadu Buhari . The theme of the summit is: Tough Choices: Achieving Competitiveness, Inclusive growth and sustainability’’.
The summit is also expected to attract a high level representation from the public sector and the captains of industry and representatives of the CEOs, development partners and media executives.
In his brief remarks, the Chairman of NESG, Bukar Kyari said the NES#21 should not have come at a better time than now, every revenue source of government has taken a downturn.
