The Ministry of Power has said that no single case of gas pipeline vandalism has been recorded since the assumption of the Buhari administration three months ago.
The Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Godknows Igali, made this disclosure to newsmen at the Presidential Villa, Abuja in response to questions on what had been responsible for the recent improvement in electricity supply across the country.
He recalled that vandalism of gas pipelines was recurrent in the last days and months of the previous administration, and reached its peak on May 26th when gas-generated electricity was completely grounded.
Igali said things however improved since then as the current administration had redoubled efforts at engaging communities where the pipelines pass through to allow peace to reign, a move he said, had resulted in increased gas supplies and improved power supply nationwide currently at 4,600 megawatts.
