Four sales representatives have been arraigned in a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing 268 pieces of branded shirts and silk knots worth N1.08 million and are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
Police prosecutor, Jimah Iseghede, told the court that the suspects committed the offences at Smart Mark Ltd. on Adeniran Ogunsanya St., Surulere, Lagos State, between October 2, 2014 and February 18, 2015.
Iseghede said the complainant, Smart Mark Ltd, carried out an audit of its store and discovered that some of the alleged goods were missing.
The complainant, he said, listed those missing as 268 T.M. Lewin branded shirts and silk knots, all valued at N1.08 million. He said the offences contravened sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 285 prescribes three years imprisonment for stealing.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
In her ruling, Chief Magistrate A.F. Adeeyo granted the accused bail in the sum of N60,000 each with one surety each in like sum.
She said the sureties must be either parents or guardians of the accused and should also produce evidence of one-year-tax payment.
