FULL BREAK DOWN OF POWER PLANTS SOLD/CONCESSIONS AND WHO WON BIDS- 25/9/2012

News all over the media today was the names of winners for the bids of the 6 power plants initially shortlisted for privatisation by the Government. Whilst the open bids took place yesterday, media outlets only got to provide full reporting today following scanty news of an event that was aired on a pair of local TV stations. Despite having one full day after the results were made known most news outlets published contradictory stats regarding the capacity of some of the plants. More so, I found it an ordeal piecing together who won what and who is paying what and who the reserve bidders are?

So I decided to get it right based on the details in various newspapers and the NERC website. Thanks to resourcedat too for providing details of the power plants

From what Ive gathered from various news sources winners will have to pay 25% of the bid price in 15 days within which they would sign share purchase agreements/ concession agreements. The balance 75% will be paid in 6 months “or at a date agreed by both parties”. See more here and here

interesting progress…..quick question, was it a closed bidding or reverse bidding? interesting that Sapele has more capacity than the Ughelli plant yet the winning bid of $200MM is a fraction of the $300MM for Ughelli…….and they are in the same area of the country? also trying to understand how come the reserve bids for Shiroro and Kainji are higher than the winning bid?

Yes, the capacity of the plant should determine the price but I tell you that if you see the state of these plants with your own eyes…you’ll even wonder how they fetched so much. Maybe na the land dem buy sha… Lol
