The administration of former President Late Muhammadu Buhari, who led Nigeria from 2015 to 2023, undertook a number of road and rail infrastructure projects aimed at improving national connectivity.
The Federal Government of Nigeria has secured $350 million from the African Development Bank (AfDB) to fund the construction of the Kano-Maradi rail project, which will connect Kano to Maradi in Niger Republic.
The Minister of Transportation, Saidu Alkali, has assured that the first segment of the Kano-Maradi rail project, the Kano-Daura section, will be completed by 2025.
Presidency says the rail is designed to enhance neighbourliness and ease economic activity between Nigeria and Niger.
When completed, the Kano-Maradi rail will serve West African countries as they pass their goods through Nigerian ports, Buhari has said.
