The Lagos State Land Use Act just got even more controversial. A clause in the Law includes the name Alpha Beta, which if you did not know has been helping Lagos State collect taxes since the days of former Governor and Leader of the ruling APC Government, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The clause reads “Alpha Beta or any other designated person(s) or corporate body who has the responsibility of monitoring the incoming revenue of the State through the collecting banks, shall provide a report to the Accountant-General of the State.”

Critics of the law are infuriated with the insertion of the name of the company in the Law,  basically giving the company legal protection to monitor Land Use Charge collection on behalf of the government into perpetuity or as long as the law exist.

See some twitter reactions

Dear @AkinwunmiAmbode if the land use charge has being made easy to pay via banks why does the govt need alpha beta to manage the revenue so generated? @channelstv @BBoason @chamberlainusoh

@yomitheprof. I didn’t see this coming…..Alpha-Beta (Jagaban’s Company?) made it into the Act we the exclusive collection agent! Lagos is doomed. https://t.co/okwlzvomx0

Is Alpha Beta not a private firm? Why is it being included just like that? Gosh, Lagos is a con state. https://t.co/5UWc3tlyA2
